Family and Children Services

FAMILY & CHILDREN SERVICES

Very often, poverty begins at childhood. Mary Hall Freedom Village understands the importance of early intervention to stop the vicious cycle of multi-generational poverty and homelessness and addictions. We have created an enriching and supportive environment for the children in our program that utilizes a unique blend of therapeutic childcare, support and education to make a difference in the lives of our children.

Innovative Minds Learning Center

Innovative Minds Learning Center (IMLC) is committed to meeting the needs of our children by providing childcare for infants, toddlers, preschool, afterschool, summer enrichment, and education cooperative programs. Program services are offered year-round. Our credentialed educational staff creates a nurturing atmosphere of love and acceptance for each individual learning style. A planned daily schedule, an organized environment, age-appropriate materials, and faith-based activities are supported by the Creative Curriculum and Second Steps Social/ Emotional Curriculum. Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards (GELDS) are implemented to support school readiness goals.

After School Program

The Afterschool program serves children ages 5 -12 years old. The program encompasses a broad range of focus areas including academic support, mentoring, youth development, arts, sports, and recreation. The activities that the children actively engage in while outside of school hours are critical to their development, especially focusing on social and emotional skills. Children are introduced to gardening, one on one tutoring, preventive activities, and many communities’ engagement events. Our high-quality afterschool program generates positive outcomes by improved academic performance, classroom and home behavior, and health and nutrition.

Summer Enrichment Program

The Summer Enrichment Program actively involves students ages 5 - 12 years old in activities to avoid the "brain dump" that can occur when a child leaves school. Our program keeps children's minds and bodies active through physical activities such as Zumba and Yoga. Students are involved in fun-filled educational activities that support science, technology, engineering, and math (S.T.E.M.). Literacy is a focus to ensure skills remain on target for re-entry to school. The program emphasizes developing soft skills – strengthening peer relationships and ties with adults and developing persistence that can shape students’ motivation, and increase feelings of belonging, and self-confidence. Our summer enrichment program is active during the summer months when school is not in regular session.

Education Cooperative Program

IMLC Education Cooperative incorporates a balance of fun activities and technology in a safe, supportive environment. The program is offered during “School-Out” sessions. Through our programs, students strengthen their academic skills, and knowledge, deepen communication skills with adults and peers, and engage in project-based learning and cross-curricular activities. We tie all our activities to academic learning based on the curriculum taught by the local school system and enriching the education of youth outside of school through a variety of learning techniques. As a bonus, our students are being social while they’re working in the cooperative learning environment. The goal of using this strategy is for students to work together to achieve a common goal.

Family Counseling and Reunification

Our organization believes in family. In order to keep families together we work in collaboration with social service agencies and other community partners to support family reunification and stabilization of children who have been separated from their mothers.

Psychological Testing and Counseling

Our children are faced with traumatic events. We provide psychological assessments, follow up counseling and therapy for each child who has been adversely affected by their mother’s addiction.
